The Chronos is an excellent sounding USB DAC/amp that may be more expensive than the competition but for a good reason. It is pretty obvious that Violectric's experience has played its part and the company did not settle for a standard - ready made - solution but spent some time painstakingly tuning the Chronos to squeeze every last drop of performance from the CS43131. I have tested several similar devices with the CS43131 chip and although the theory dictates that, more or less, all of them should have sounded the same, the Chronos seems to stand out thanks to its richer tone and more analog, musical sound signature. The overall presentation is pleasant and enjoyable with all kinds of music while Chronos can draw a wide open soundstage with accurate positioning of the performers. The sound is smooth without roughness, treble is controlled and absent of brightness while retaining all the necessary sparkle and energy for the music to sound lively. Vocals and solo instruments are rendered smoothly with a mostly natural timbre, fine articulation and great cohesion while blending together to reach the listener's ears. The sound is perfectly balanced and linear without tonal shifts while there is a great extension to both extremities of the frequency range.Ĭhronos sounds clean and crystal clear without being affected by the electromagnetic interference of the mobile antenna and noise floor is pretty low so as not to add hiss to the more sensitive earphones.ĭetail retrieval is quite satisfactory for such a type of a device and with a top iem like the FD7, Chronos sounds quite resolving offering a good insight into the recording venue.īass is extended, full and dynamic, tight and fast with good control and excellent layering. To cover all input options Violectric CHRONOS comes with three adapter cables including Lightning!Ĭonnecting the device is pretty simple and it worked perfectly with all operating systems without the need to install drivers, while I did not encounter any problems when playing high resolution files. The top and bottom cover are made from glass, the top cover shows the operating modes in different colors.īe it Apple or Android, be it Windows 10 or iOS, Violectric CHRONOS will always connect trouble-free without any annoying driver installation. The rugged case was milled from a solid piece of aluminum and is surrounded by a shiny beveling. The upscaled and technologically advanced item measures only 44,5 x 24 x 10 mm. The amplifier powers low impedance headphones with up to 2 x 30 mW. The power consumption is negligible and reduces the operational time of the connected smartphone only insignificantly. The D/A converter in charge offers a typical dynamic range of 130 dB with distortions as low as -115 dB. The uncompromising technical data feature 32 Bit and 384 kHz Sample-Rate for PCM signals, DSD is accepted up to DSD 256. This is a top-notch D/A converter combined with a powerful headphone amplifier, protected by a stylish miniature case. Violectric tackled this problem and created CHRONOS for “Audiophiles On The Road“. Or it became obvious that the integrated smartphone electronics missed the right power to drive the headphones. Since it became “fashion“ to offer modern smartphones without a headphone socket, the preferred headphone often had to stay at home. Violectric CHRONOS is the powerful external DAC with headphone amplifier for all mobile phones and other portable devices with or without headphone connector.
